Qukel toys are made in India. For a fair price. Bandipur, a village near Calcutta have 10 numbers of men and women work through your purchase. Qukel toys are made as much as possible from materials that relieve the earth such as biodegradable dye.
Who is behind Qukel
Maggie Burema-Pijzel (child psychologist and market researcher), Aafke Sprundel (communication specialist and anthropologist) and Gerard Warrior (clinical radio chemist and biologist), are the founders of Qukel toys. But Qukel actually began with the birth of Gerard’s first son Ivar. “How do I find out what really goes on in the head of that little?” Was one of his first thoughts. He took a course in developmental psychology of 0-3 year olds, by Dr. Ewald Vervaet.
With Aafke and Maggie soon the idea rose to apply the knowledge on the development of small children on a toy line for parents with young children. Because in fact there were no toys that are really stimulate the interaction between parent and child.
After much research and conversations with parents the idea was born to focus on fathers. Mothers and their children get a lot of attention after birth where fathers are stuck with a lot of questions. This is also why you find ‘did you know’ and playing tricks on the package of each toy. Fathers like facts, where mothers often act intuitively.
Using Dutch Design in Development (DDiD) they found the designer Annemiek van Wees (Dutch Kimchi). She went to Aafke to India to guide the production process there of the first designs and prototypes. Through DDiD they came in contact with the current supplier CRC Export.

This led to a nice toy concept with a story: Toys for fathers and their children aged 0-3 that promotes interaction and moreover is especially fun to play with. By playing tips in the accompanying booklet and the facts on the toys they are more attractive for fathers. All Qukel toys have designs with biodegradable dye. The color palette takes into account softer yet attractive colors for toddlers.
